What is it with mid-engined supercars and fires? Earlier today we brought you the video of the Ferrari F430 flambé and it was only a few months ago that an R8 test mule virtually burnt to the ground at the Nurburgring.
This time, its another test mule…apparently. As with most automotive fires the cause was fuel. Are the Italian and German supercar assemblers getting weak wrists? Are the makers of some of the world’s greatest supercars struggling with something as simple as a high pressure hose clamp?
Thankfully, the folks at eGMCarTech have confirmed that no-one was hurt.

Why do car websites and magazines not know about the substantial faults that Lamborghini has built into the Murcilago and Galardo which in turn has now been added to the R8? The Lambo V10 has a computer gliche that reads that a plug has failed so it turns off all spark to that bank of pistons. In turn it doesnt turn off the fuel supply and the fuel is pumped throught to build up in the converter until it catches fire. The other problem Galardos have is that at the factory theyve had a habit of not tightening the drive shaft bolts. Eventually the bolts come undone and the driveshafts tear through conveniently place hydraulic lines releasing fuid onto hot exhausts… instant toasted cars with both problems….
The Murcilago has its own problem of the traction control locking up rear wheels at high speed and killing the occupants of the car in the resulting accident. Lamborghni has chosen to ignore this regular occurence and blames speed for their deaths, while owners that have survived are now starting to take legal proceddings against Lamborghini…
