While recent reports have effectively trashed hopes of Honda ever releasing a follow-up to the venerable S2000, the Japanese manufacturer is still keen to flaunt its only RWD offering at Japan’s premier automotive aftermarket expo, the Tokyo Auto Salon.
Honda will be wheeling out the Sports Modulo S2000 Concept when the doors open at the Makuhari Messe exhibition centre tomorrow. The Concept wears a unique bodykit and bespoke interior to dress up the S2000’s ageing form.
The Sports Modulo S2000’s bodykit mainly consists of a unique front bumper, fancy-pants LED foglamps, a set of unique rims and a pair of the hugest sideskirts ever to be slapped on a Honda roadster. The front bumper is almost sculptural in its slabbiness and those LED foglamps are an acquired taste, but those sideskirts are simply overkill.
Sure, the S2000 is a pretty damn old car (it turns 10 years-old in April), but it doesn’t need that much work to look fresh.
Inside it’s a far more understated affair with chocolatey leather, brown carpets and a few extra lashings of chrome and carbonfibre contrasting nicely with the standard S2000 black dash. It’s just a damn shame the S2000 badge won’t survive beyond the end of this year.
The Sports Modulo S2000 Concept won’t be the only exhibit at Honda’s TAS09 stand though, as the automaker will also be bringing the Sports Modulo Fit Concept. Based upon the latest Fit (or Jazz, to us Aussies), the Sports Modulo Concept is a symphony in safety-vest orange. Orange-trimmed sports seats? Check. Orange-tinted carbonfibre dash highlights? Check. A single orange spoke on each alloy wheel? Um, check.
Despite the orange overload, the Sports Modulo Fit still looks kinda cool. The front bumper gets the same angular styling as the S2000 concept and a lower suspension gives the five-door hatch a sporty stance. Is it quick? Honda don’t say, but our guess is that it’s a styling exercise only.
Honda will also have a Touring Modulo version of the latest Accord Euro at TAS09 as well as a Sports Modulo Civic Type R competition car (see gallery), but what if your tastes don’t quite extend to the sporting side of the automotive spectrum? What if you prefer something a bit more… feminine? Well, here’s the car for you: the Honda Life Style Study.
It’s for chicks. ‘Nuff said.

The only thing worth noting on the S2000 is the seat.
The bodykit must’ve been designed by someone on a boozy Friday arvo in a day.
The Modulo kit on the Accord Euro is probably the better one of the lot.

Take the Honda Life Style Study for example.
The team must’ve had a panel of expertise made up of pre-school girls who are still fascinated with Hello Kittys and other Sanrio characters.
Pink polka dotted seat covers, check.
Pink sequinned dashboard, check. (let’s not even mention how much of a hazard this will be in strong sunlight)
Pink velour trim bits on the door, check.
And the colour coordination skills are just incredible.
Sets a whole new paradigm in the automotive interior world.
Sure, these cars would look a bit overdone in a Honda showroom but I don’t think they’d be out of place as show cars for the Tokyo Auto Salon. They might even be too conservative.
I’d love to see manufacturers flaunt crazy customised versions of their cars in our local Autosalon.

I don’t mind car markers going out there and trying new things with there designes but at least make it tasteful. None of those designes seem to flow with the shape of the body. Be out there but at least make it flow!
