The Mazda stand at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon is set to feature a series of track-ready ‘Circuit Trial’ concepts, with modified examples of the Mazda6, Mazda2, and RX-8 on display.
A good display is nothing if it isn’t paired with an appropriate theme, and Mazda’s ‘Driving-oriented environmental technologies for endless driving pleasure’ would seem to fit the bill for this particular show, if these photos of the Circuit Trial Mazda6 are anything to go by.
While there’s no information yet on what we can expect in the way of power, plenty can be inferred from the body kit, graphics, and shopping list of stickers running the length of the side skirts. Featuring prominent Japanese aftermarket parts manufacturers such as M’z Custom (Mazda Japan’s in-house tuning arm), 5Zigen, Recaro, Yokohama, Espelir, and Endless, the Circuit Trial Mazda6 is likely to be nothing if not a credible track-ready sedan.
Following a style not too dissimilar to the MazdaSpeed Atenza concept revealed early last year (we’re still waiting for that 6MPS and 2MPS), the photos reveal the M’z Custom body kit, Recaro racing seats, large five-spoke alloy rims in front of a set of Endless brakes, aftermarket short-shift gear knob, and various aesthetic updates to the interior.
Even less information exists for the Circuit Trial RX-8 and Mazda2, though the same approach applied to the Mazda6 appears to be have been taken with both cars.
The Tokyo Auto Salon is Japan’s premier show for modified cars, with concepts displayed by manufacturers and aftermarket groups alike. The 2009 show will be held from January 9 to January 11. Keep your eyes on TMR for all the news from the show.

I like the concept, it is like in the RadioControl world of Ready-to-Race kits. Mazda just needs to include option of Japanese brand Race helmet with Mazda decal, and Takata harness to complete.
I really am liking the Mazda 6 Concept! I saw great potential for an MPS model!
If these are going to be anything like the M’z MX5 (which went on sale in Japan last yr) then the performance tuning would be quite light: ecu, flywheel, exhaust and shocks.

Wow. Really liking these, actually. Kind of a surprise really after the disappointment of the Mazdaspeed concepts. I think Mazda has finally realised that crappy chrome rims suck.
I also have to say that the 6 is fast becoming my ‘grown up and sensible’ wheels of choice. Now how good would a circuit trial wagon look?
