Here’s a quickie for you, folks.
A GT-R owner over at mygtr.com by the name of MC, went and took a Nissan 370Z for a test drive, and figured he’d take a few shots of it alongside his own GT-R while he was at it.
Opinions in the TMR office are polarised by the styling of these two cars: some of us love the 370Z, others are not such fans of it; and the same again with the GT-R. Seeing them side-by-side certainly puts things in perspective.
Click through for a few more images, and a few of MC’s thoughts on the 370Z.
The SynchroRev Match system is cool, but it’s kind of weird. It activates as soon as the shifter touches the gate - it doesn’t even need to be in gear to blip the throttle. From 5th down to 4th is is a smaller blip than from 5th to 3rd obviously, but I thought it would be more like the GT-R, where it blips only when it thinks you need it. When driving the Z today it did it every time, very aggressively.

GTR fo sure! the Z looks too much like the 350Z!
Seeing the two side by side is interesting - there are still element of either car that I don’t like the look of, and others that I do.
Intersting to hear how SynchroRev match works though - almost sounds like tech for tech’s sake.
I’m really coming around to the GT-R’s styling. Just so tough in its stance with lots of great details. 370Z I think improves on the 350Z’s proportions (that one in the pic looks like a 4wd with that massive ride height though!)
really liking the 370Z and they’re already calling it the baby GTR, but what is Nissan doing with the size of their “sports cars”?? they’re the size of family sedans
hope they don’t mess up the 370Z in Australia by charging a ridiculous price
saw a black GTR on the way home today, i didnt care i was driving at 10k’s below the speed limit because i made sure i had a extended look at that thing
I wonder what it would take to bolt the gtr’s donk into the 370z’s engine bay. A 370GT-R would be just a little bit cool.
Looks like the perfect 2 car garage….for blind driving enthusiasts.
I think it’s because the only RWD platform that Nissan has is the big-boned chassis they use for the Infiniti G37 and Skyline V36. It’s not possible to use this chassis for a small, Silvia-sized model, it’s just too big.
Nissan has out done them-selves again with every GTR, they are able to make every models exterior better looking. Unlike others manufactures not naming names, ahem Porsche. No wonder Porsches are so good with their driving dynamics, keeping the same shell with a bit of tweaks here and there. If the R34 was rebuild from time to time by Nissan with adjustments for over a decade it would be the ultimate track weapon and backfire over Porches. Although the 370z isn’t going to win in the looks department as it just looks demented. Every one knows that Holden Stole the R34 front look and made it their own from VZ to VE. Slap a GTR badge in front of a Blue VE and the similarity is unmistakeable.
I like the lines of the 370z just that little bit more than the GTR.
The GT-R is obviously the more brutal design in keeping with its driving character - the Z is more lithe in shape.
Both desirable!
Two of the brightest stars on the market today. There are some similarities, but very different, one is a sports car, the other a supercar. Both are original designs that mimic no-one and best of all, high quality, highly engineered cars that punch well above their weight in terms of performance and styling. Can’t wait to see these on the roads in Oz.
From appearance alone, I would’ve picked the 370Z to be the more expensive car. The GT-R needs to be faster still if its going to be that butt ugly. (Yes, I’ve seen a R35 GT-R in person. And no, it don’t think it looks any better in the metal.)
