Fiat Records Ripper Of A Year In 2008

Official VFACTS figures released today reveal that Fiat – only recently returned to the Aussie market – has had a stellar 2008, with Australian sales up 26.1 percent over the previous year. The figures show that there has been growth across the board, helping the brand record 2156 sales for 2008.

Out in front was the Fiat Ducato, maintaining its position as the best selling Fiat in Australia thanks to demand from the Australian Motorhome Industry.

The Fiat 500 – which we reckon could probably slot into the back of the biggest Fiat Ducato – sold itself dry, with sales far outstripping supply. Some 600 of the bambinos saw their way into Aussie homes in 2008.

“The Ducato and the Fiat 500 may be at opposite ends of the scale when it comes to size, but they share everything that makes them a Fiat,” says Andrei Zaitzev, General Manager for Fiat in Australia.

“They share a commitment to safety, value for money, economy, performance and low emissions that makes them an eminently sensible purchasing decision. But they are also stylish, great to drive and designed with intelligence and flair.

It is this combination intelligent common sense and the pleasure of ownership that has made the reborn Fiat such a success and which will continue to drive Fiat forward in 2009!”

If you’re thinking it might be time for a cute little Euro, or looking to do some heavy hauling, perhaps it’s time to take a fresh look at Fiat’s offerings. It’s just a start, but 2156 people can’t be wrong.

So they sold nothing in Australia until now because they just reintroduced the Brand again…?
Nah DuH when you first had nothing to sell now you got something obviously it’s a profit

Sorry Andy, I wasn’t clear in my post. Fiat returned to the Australian market in July 2006.

That comment wasn’t meant to criticise you guys Mike, I meant they are at the bottom there’s nowhere but up. Starting from scratch in Oz again they obviously couldn’t be that bad in 2 years

Check your facts (and your maths).

Fiat’s been back in Aust since 2002 (and 2156 less 26% is more than nothing).

Chris

Fiat returned to selling vehicles is Australia in 2002 so to everyone check you facts before you open your mouth.

Cheers

Chris

You’re a cheerful fella! Thanks for the correction (and for posting it twice), Chris. Much appreciated.

Actually Fiat Passenger cars returned in 2006 with the Punto.

Infact Fiat is the fastest growing passenger brand (Full year on year) in Australia. So get your facts right eggheads!

Regards
Tony

PS Don’t mention Skoda

Thanks Mike, I’m much happier now!

Cheers

Chris

Well, I was going to mention Skoda, but Tony seems to be such a know-it-all that I won’t bother! I presume what he’s trying to get at is that Hummer and that other brand I can’t mention didn’t sell cars for the whole of 2007, so that’s why their figures look so good for 2008.

All we need now is for Fiat to pull their collective fingers out and get the Fiat 500 Abarth and the Punto Abarth here, so we can have some decent Euro mini hotties!

Common guys - do the right thing!

Phil
