2010 Hyundai Equus Sketches Revealed, Korean Car Owners Heave A Sigh Of Relief

Ten years after the already outdated styling of the Hyundai Equus was first launched into the Korean market (and the Middle East as the Hyundai Centennial), official sketches of the upcoming third generation of Hyundai’s flagship have hit the interwebs.

While the styling of the final production model will undoubtedly be more subdued than the simply stunning illustrations, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class inspiration and Hyundai Genesis family connection is evident enough.

Though the Equus was never sold in Western markets, Hyundai’s stated goal at the time was to compete in Korea with BMW and Mercedes-Benz. It’s clear that the same goals apply now.

Interestingly, the Hyundai Genesis advertising in the US describes the Genesis as “7-Series size, 5-Series performance and 3-Series price”.  The Equus has always been Hyundai’s biggest car, so you’ve got to wonder just how big this new model will be.

Whatever the case, the upcoming Equus represents the same massive leap forward for Hyundai that the Genesis brought in 2008.  Hyundai says the car will feature LED technology in the headlights – a first for the Korean carmaker – as well as LED tail lights. Pre-Safe seatbelts will also be offered, as will Vehicle Stability Management and a Lane Departure Warning System.

Now, friends, feast your eyes on the still-current Hyundai Equus.

That’s got ripped off all over it, and it won’t see the time or day

Don’t like the curves at door-handle level, but the rest is alright.

The current model though makes the Avalon look like a supercar!

You can easily switch this car’s badge with the one from Mercedes.

if you just change the front a little bit it wont resemble an S class
im sure if were released they would change the front

Mmmm, I like it! Looks kind of Honda Legend-ish… only pumped more. Glad to see Hyundai making a genuine effort in this class.

eques looks ok to me,
not something amazing but probably the sketches are cool,
must be waiting for that

Lexus ass… Benz face.

Why is it that some manufacturers feel the need to rip off someone else’s styling. IMO styling is a trademark of sorts.

When you see a BMW, you should instantly recognize it as being a BMW. Ditto Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Honda, Nissan etc etc etc…

Cars like these only ruin individuality and hinder proper design.

these days all manufacturers “borrow” design cues from other manufacturers, there is no such thing as originality anymore because anything that is good has been done
