Yet another Frankfurt Motor Show debutant – the new Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S will be unveiled to an adoring public in September and according to Maserati it is the ultimate expression of Maserati’s saloon sportiness. Whatever...the Quattroporte remains one of my favourite four doors.

The Quattroporte Sport GT S features a revised suspension set-up with single rate dampers and stiffer springs. Sitting 10mm lower at the front and 25mm lower at the rear Maserati refer to the reworked suspension as a “racing” set up.

Braking is taken care of by Brembo six-piston mono-block calipers and new Brembo “dual-cast” brake discs, which unlike a traditional cast iron brake disc combine the use of cast-iron and aluminium.

Increased resistance to fade and improved performance are said to be two of the benefits. Combining cast-iron and aluminium in brake discs is hardly revolutionary but no doubt helps to improve the braking performance of this particular Maser.

The Quattroporte Sport GT S is fitted with dark-chrome 20", seven spoke alloy wheels that are wrapped in specially developed (read expensive) tyres, front 245/35-R20 and rear 295/30-R20 that feature a new tyre compound to “guarantee a superior level of handling and driving emotion” – who writes these press releases?

The exterior features a black-chrome mesh front grille while side window trims and the exhaust pipes have also been given the “black” treatment.

On the inside Traditional Poltrona Frau leather has been combined with Alcantara, to cover the seats, interior door panels and the steering wheel, while the dashboard is finished in carbon fibre with aluminium treads.

The new Maserati Quattroporte GT S will make its Australian and New Zealand debut in mid-2008, when local prices and specifications will be announced.
