Proving three wheels are better than two, at least in this instance, Piaggio’s three-wheeled MP3 has taken out Two Wheels ‘Scooter Mag’ magazine’s inaugural ‘Scooter Of The Year Award’.
While some may struggle a little with the three wheel concept, there’s no doubt that they work very well on the highly stable, highly manoeuvrable, and funky Piaggio. In both 250cc and 400cc iterations, it’s the style leader in the sector and sub-zero cool.
In Europe, because of their versatility, stability and style, they’re bolting out of showrooms. If you haven’t already checked them out, take a look at some of the high-jinks on Utube of the three-wheeler Piaggios and Gileras in action.
The Piaggio Group, which includes Vespa and Gilera, is now dominant in the Aussie scooter market.
“The MP3 provides unparalleled road grip and stability levels, and being available in 250cc and 400cc engines, the MP3 offers power, performance and an ease of use that makes for a thoroughly entertaining ride.
“The MP3 is a scooter that you just have to experience to be able to appreciate. It’s very satisfying to see the MP3 receive the recognition that we feel it justly deserves,” Piaggio’s marketing manager Mal Jarrett said.
At $9990.00 for the MP3 250, and $10990.00 for the MP3 400, with free registration and stamp duty thrown in until the New Year; this a good time to check them out. Have a look here, www.piaggio.com.au.

I’m not sure the words Scooter, and Cool, should ever be said in the same sentence without a word like ‘not’ or ‘never’ in there.
We wuzz robbed!!! The Gilera 500ie has more cubes, more poke, and a lot more cred due to the more brutal styling, particularly around the front end. But seriously, if you haven’t tried it, don’t knock it; the 3 wheelers are fun fast and planted. Just ask th rider of the 750 suzi I rounded up getting onto the freeway this morning!
