Holden VE Ute - the next Chevy El Camino?

Will the new VE Ute become the next Chevy El Camino? Apparently not, according to the chaps over at GM Inside News. They appear to have the ear of one Bob Lutz and the cigar chomping, jet flying boss of all things GM said that there will be no Chevrolet version of the VE Ute.

GM Inside News forum member “MonaroSS” actually emailed his photo chop of the VE Ute featuring the bow-tie badge to Bob and said that he hopes the new Ute gets a more Chevy look if it goes Stateside. Big Bob took time out of his hectic schedule to respond with;

“Well, that’s what we want to do, but it won’t be a Chevrolet!”

So, it looks like the VE Ute could be the next Holden export success but exactly what it will be badged is anyone’s guess. VE Commodores will be joining the Pontiac line-up in the near future so maybe a Pontiac badged premium sports Ute? Maybe not…

I am glad to hear that the Yanks won’t be getting our Ute.

because it means that we Aussies - who invented the ute; will be able to retain the world record for the most utes in one place.. at the awesome “Deni Muster”

I may appear to be a bit selfish.. but is it our fault that they can’t build a good looking; practical; quality car?

Yes the Deni Ute muster rocks on! I must admit i hang my head low when i drive through Deniliquin in anything else than a ute.
I reckon us Aussies are sitting on a gold mine with our local iconic car industry and it is something that should be shared with the world, so keep sending them abroad!
