ShareThisChrysler Australia has announced today that it will no longer be providing the official Safety and Course Car for the V8 Supercar Championship Series. The announcement follows four years of Chrysler Safety Cars leading the pack in the premier Australian motor racing series.
"Chrysler has been a wonderful partner in our great sport. Their sponsorship has been fantastic for Chrysler and V8 Supercars Australia. We thank them for bringing the magnificent 300C to the sport for the last four years and their efforts in raising not only their profile but the brand of V8 Supercars," V8 Supercars Australia CEO Cameron Levick said.
Over the last four years, Chrysler has provided Hemi powered 300C’s, in both sedan and touring variants, for the Safety Car role. In recent years, that has included the infamous 300C SRT8 (Street Racing and Technology), which is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100kph in just over 5 seconds.
As a part of their duties the 300C Safety Cars opened and closed each circuit, in addition to supplying race control with information about the track. Of course, they also led the V8 Supercar field when track conditions required a controlled speed.
“The Chrysler safety cars were literally seen by millions of fans, both at the event and broadcast coverage, this was an innovative way to introduce one of our iconic cars to the Australian market.” said Craig Bradshaw, General Manager Marketing, Chrysler Australia.
The Chrysler Safety Cars led the pack for the last time at Oran Park Raceway on December 4th – 7th 2008.
