With the recent passing of the Aston Martin Vanquish – may it rest in peace - it is pleasing to note that Aston have announced the official unveiling of their next “Big Daddy” coupe – the DBS.

Arguably considered the star of Bond flick, Casino Royale, at least by petrolheads, the new Aston Martin DBS is set to be unveiled at this weeks Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, before going on sale in early 2008.

All of the good stuff is in there, the 6.0-litre V12 (from the DB9) suitably modified to increase output to 380Kw and 570Nm. Mods include airflow work on the heads and a ‘by-pass’ air intake port that opens above 5500rpm to allow more air into the combustion chambers. The DBS also weighs in at 1695kg or 65kgs less than the DB9.

The only gearbox available is a six-speed manual which is the way it should be. Wealthy Industrialists, corporate raiders, merchant bankers and Toyota board members will just have to put more effort into driving their new Aston. Their manual effort will be rewarded with a 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds and a 302km/h top speed.

To ensure they can still pull up outside their office after reaching terminal velocity Aston have fitted carbon ceramic brakes, making the DBS the first Aston to feature the exotic discs. Combined with a new Adaptive Damping System that features five different damper settings the DBS has everything a young man needs to ensure he is only shaken…and not stirred.

How much? If you have to ask then you can't afford it.
