UPDATE 08/12/2008 - Johnturbo has returned to the track and improved on the 10.852 time with a 10.802 pass. A link to the video has been provided by Sean in the comments.

It's in: 10.852 is the new time to beat for aspiring R35 GT-R drag enthusiasts with 'Johnturbo' from NAGTROC forums having recently posted the new mark over the quarter in Florida. Those hunting for top spot had better be quick though - getting to a track and on it - as John is confident there's more in his current setup; only a closing drag strip curbed his quest for quicker times on the night.

drag1085John managed to break into the 'tens' earlier in the evening but opted to make full use of the GT-R's launch control feature to reel off the high 10-second pass just before the strip closed for the evening. With kinder ambient temperatures and more precise shifting (he concedes he redlined 2nd), Johnturbo reckons the R35 could possibly run a high 10.6-second pass.

Cracking the tens is no mean feat - out of the reach of the average GT-R. The list of modifications on Johnturbo's GT-R tell the story:

  • HS GT570 Kit - Boost set to 17psi
  • Amuse STTI Exhaust (Catback)
  • Harman Motive Air Intake System
  • Custom Methanol Injection
  • Custom Cobb AccessPORT Map
  • 18" Volk TE37s w/Mickey Thompson drag radials
  • Fuel: Mix of 93 and 109.
  • Chromoly roll-cage (35-40kgs)

With increasing numbers of private owners and performance workshops looking to hit the drag strip, how long will this time last? For now John is king of the hill. It's not everyday you get to say you're the owner and driver of the quickest R35 GT-R anywhere down the quarter mile.

Check out the video of the run below, while not the best quality it does give you some idea of how quickly it all happens.
