Black never goes out of fashion apparently and it is never more evident than in the car industry at the moment. Earlier this week I reported on the Saab Black Turbo Series and earlier this year the AMG CLK63 Black Edition was introduced. Well, now it’s Porsche’s turn to embrace the eternal darkness and they have chosen to weave some black magic over their Cayman S.

Porsche announced today via press release that they will be introducing a limited edition Cayman S “Porsche Design Edition 1” and you’d better like black. Porsche claim that they have incorporated various design disciplines into the limited edition Cayman. The black exterior emphasizes the purist nature of the Cayman while at the same time being a nod to Porsche Design and the famous Chronograph 1s designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche precisely 35 years previously. At least that’s what the press release says…

The interior features black leather, the door trims are black along with the dashboard and centre console. The three spoke steering wheel, gear lever, handbrake grip and the roof lining are all covered in non-slip black Alcantara, while the black leather headrests feature an embossed Porsche logo.

The Cayman S “Porsche Design Edition 1” rides 10mm lower than the standard Cayman S and features Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). It rides on 19-inch turbo wheels that have been spaced five millimeters out from the hubs to give the all-black Cayman S added presence.

Buy The Cayman S “Porsche Design Edition 1” and you will also receive an elegant briefcase containing a “Flat Six” Chronograph watch, a pocket knife, a pair of sunglasses, a pen, and a key ring – all in black naturally...even the knife blade.

Deliveries of this prince of darkness Cayman will begin in November this year in Europe with Australia to follow. Plenty of time to get out there and buy some complimentary chinos, shirts and leather jackets - black of course.
