The number of consumers looking to convert Holden Commodores to run on LPG Autogas has been growing rapidly in recent times as the cost of petrol makes the conversion an appealing proposition.

Australia's leading LPG equipment suppliers are reporting stronger sales of retrofit Autogas engine kits as consumers look to free themselves from the volatility of standard fuel pump prices.

Mark Somers from Parnell LP Gas Systems spoke of the increase in demand and detailed how far LPG technology has come:

"LPG is clearly gaining a greater level of acceptance and credibility in the market place. All our LPG kits are superior sequential vapour injection technology offering state-of-the-art components supplied by Prins in The Netherlands," he said.

Brian Evans from Global Autogas Systems believes that the recent increase in the promotion of LPG by local car makers, has resulted in owners of used vehicles feeling more comfortable with fitting gas systems to their cars.

"We are selling lots of sequential vapour LPG injection kits for VZ Commodore because the cars can be bought inexpensively on the second hand market - but I expect similar demand for VE Commodore conversions in the next year, or two," Brian Evans from Global Autogas Systems said.

One of the more prominent brands helping to raise awareness of the benefits of LPG, is Australian LPG system manufacturer Sprint Gas. Its sponsorship of a two-car team in the V8 Supercar Championship series is a win-win situation.

Four-time Bathurst winner Greg Murphy and co-driver Jim Richards recently steered the Sprint Gas Commodore to a hard fought second place in this year's Bathurst 1000, a result that cements the viability and reliability that todays LPG gas systems offer.

Sprint Gas' Giuseppe Boemo commented on the increasing interest in LPG:

"We're using motor racing to advertise new LPG injection technology. At the same time I think it's fair to say the increased support of local car makers for LPG will improve its credibility."

LPG Australia said that the number of Autogas conversions on Australian roads has grown rapidly thanks to the Federal Government LPG Vehicle Scheme. The Federal Government said that since the $2000 grant for private vehicle conversion was introduced in August 2006, more than 184,000 grants have been paid.
