New Mazda 6 to Debut at Frankfurt

Mazda provided this teaser image and announced today that the debut of the all new 6 will take place at - you guessed it - Frankfurt in September. The new 6 will be based on the now global Mondeo platform and will be a serious contender for the local mid-size sedan market in Australia.

Given its Mondeo architecture and recent spy shots we are expecting the 6 to increase in overall size over the outgoing model. Increases are also expected in the mechanical department.

With styling cues that echo the Mazda2 (due for release in Oz shortly), Carupdate have heard that the top end 6 model may feature the 3.5 V6 Duratec Cyclone engine that we will see in the Falcon come 2010, although this is not confirmed.

Seeing that the current Australian Spec 6 Classic Sport only has the 2.3-litre four pot and Japan seem to enjoy depriving us of the cool derivatives of their normal cars, we are not expecting the 3.5 Mazda 6 to make it here. Prove us wrong Mr Hisakazu Imaki!
