Honda has today revealed its FC Sport fuel cell concept vehicle at the Los Angeles Motor Show, giving us a glimpse into its version of a future featuring alternatively-fueled cars.

Looking like something straight out of a video game, the FC Sport has a chunky and overtly sporty persona accentuated by bold lines and low slung stance.

Using the same V Flow fuel-cell technology currently powering Honda's FCX Clarity sedan, Honda has moved to showcase the flexibility of fuel cell designs by mid-mounting the power-train in this rear-wheel drive sports car.

The fuel cell driven electric motor is mounted between the rear wheels, while the hydrogen tanks feeding the fuel cells are mounted aft of the cabin. The location of these items is critical to the FC's low-centre of gravity and balanced weight distribution. This attention to detail should endow the FC with go-kart like handling, should it ever be driven in anger (which seems unlikely).

The three-seater Honda remains strictly a design study for the time being, and a tantalising glimpse of a future that could see both environmentalists and performance car enthusiasts all breathing easy.
