Drifters and Japanese School boys alike will be jumping for joy the world over with the release of pictures that may well be the much anticipated revival of the cult car classic Toyota AE86.
Rumours have been circulating about the possible revival of the Toyota AE86 for some time now, and although there is little confirmed information available at this stage, Carupdate has all the information it needs. Rear wheel drive, under 1000kgs, 1.35m tall, 90Kw 1.5-litre 2NZ-FE four-cylinder all for about 1.5 Million Yen or less than $15,000 AUD!
Expect the 80’s cult revival Toyota AE86 to hit Japanese showrooms sometime in 2008 but don’t expect to see it in Australia any time soon.

Well in typical Toyota lack of intelligence they have already butchered the car.
Before you argue consider this.
Why is this engine they are prospectively offering so weak, at 1.5 liters. Yes, the car is extremely light-weight, especially when you consider the criteria and minimum standards for all cars now-a-day. An engine that punches out barely a touch over 100 BHP is going to be a disappointment for any and all prospective buyers.
The original AE86 was powered by a 1.6 liter T-16 engine, Twin-Cam (or DOHC). Even the older 4A-G (not -GE) was more guts than this car is likely to show.
But that’s just my worst-case scenario guess. We’ll definitely have to wait any see if they release any more information with solid numbers. Because as well all know, you don’t have to have a HUGE engine displacement to get effective and usable power from it. Example: “4A-GE MTE” This is the 20 Valve down-powered racing variant engine of the day for the AE86.
So I will have to be patient a lot more, and see what they do between now and the actual release date for the new AE86 Re-fit.
