J D Power and Associates are the survey kings. Barely a week seems to pass without a survey pearl from the folks at Power, and this week is no different with the announcement that BMW’s 5 Series is ranked the most appealing mid-size premium car.

JD Power and Associates honoured BMW with the award in the latest Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study (APEAL), which determines the degree of satisfaction of customers purchasing new cars in North America. Or at least the three (or maybe four) that still are.

The latest survey, confirms similar ‘studies’ carried out recently in Europe where the BMW 5 Series also ranked highest in its segment.

In France and Germany in particular, the BMW 5 Series was ranked highest in customer satisfaction of all models in the executive luxury car segment.

No-doubt, if J D Power and Associates arranged a similar study in Australia, the result could very well be the same, given that the BMW 5 Series is the best selling large car over $70,000, in this country.

In Australia, the BMW 5 Series model range kicks off with the 520d, priced from $75,888 and boasting an efficient clean diesel that produces130kW and 350Nm, with fuel consumption of 6.1 l/100 km on the combined cycle.

The J D Power and Associates results of the current APEAL study for North America are based on a customer survey conducted by J D Power and Associates, three months on average after initial registration of the vehicles.

People being full of themselves because they own a BMW? That’s not news.

Most of their “satisfaction” is probably self administered, which explains why they’re blind to the other traffic they’re cutting off.
