Pontiac G8 ST Headed To SEMA

Joining the Pontiac G8 GXP Street concept at SEMA this year will be Pontiac's version of our trusty SS ute, the G8 ST. This 'show special' will reportedly be close to the production model slated for release in late 2009 and provides a glimpse into what options may be available when the G8 ST hits dealers.

While the 'Liquid Hot' paint scheme is not expected to appear on the factory colour palette, the red leather inserts, steering wheel and gear selector should be available as luxury options. A hard or soft colour-matched tonneau cover should also make the grade and there's a good chance the 20-inch wheels shown will also be an option.

The same 270kW V8 engine used locally will be available for the ST's engine bay and while a 3.6L V6 is also an option, the G8 ST is expected to borrow the Cadillac's direct-injection version rather than using the same unit seen in our Commodore and the base model Pontiac G8 sedan.

The Pontiac G8 ST has been a long time coming for the US. If the production version rolls off the assembly line with similar specifications to our SS Ute then the Yanks should be all over it.
