Reports are trickling in that Chevrolet’s latest and greatest performance flagship, the Corvette ZR-1, has reset its own lap record on that most legendary of automotive yardsticks, the Nurburgring Nordschliefe.
Way back in June, the ZR-1 under the pilotage of GM engineer Jim Mero managed to blitz the full 21 kilometre northern loop in a stunningly-quick seven minutes and twenty-six seconds. However, GM decided to have another crack at the fearsome Nordschliefe - this time with Danish touring car driver Jan Magnussen behind the wheel - and has apparently emerged from the other end with an incredible 7:22.4 best lap.
While it’s certainly an impressive claim, there’s still no hard evidence to back it up. GM has yet to issue a statement confirming it, and we’re sure we would’ve already heard something about it from the hordes of spy photographers that stalk the ‘Ring, stopwatches at the ready. We’ll keep you posted.

Pretty phenomenal. And there isn’t much to criticise about this car.
If you have to criticise the car:
The cabin design, fit and finish are pretty low rent.
But phenomenal performance nonetheless.
Well yeah - I would probably still have a R35 over this, but I reckon the interior fit is the price you pay for a cheap list price.
The R35 GT-R’s interior appears far better, but even though I’m a GT-R fan, the Corvette shape is phenomenal.
