Lamborghini will be joining the growing ranks of high-end manufacturers who run a one-make series in May '09, when around 30 Lamborghini Super Trofeo's (Italian for 'trophy') take to the starting grid at Silverstone raceway in England.

Based on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, the Super Trofeo weighs a measly 1300kgs and is powered by a modified version of Lamborghini's 5.2L direct-injection V10 producing 425kWs. Shifting duties will be handled by Lamborghini's 'e.gear' six-speed sequential gearbox which is fitted to each car as standard. Pirelli slicks on race-specific wheels and new instrumentation are also included while adjustments to aerodynamics, ABS calibration, and chassis settings have been made to better match the car's intent.

You'll need €200,000 ($408,620 in local dollars) just to get started, but the price does include the car and a parts package as well as track-side support and access to the Lamborghini Village driver retreat, that will be setup at each venue. Of the 30 competitors, most will be well-funded privateers, however Lamborghini will be running its own sponsored car to allow a different celebrity to take the wheel at each event.

For those of you with deep pockets, head over to the official website for more details and be sure to let us know if you're thinking of entering. We're pretty handy with a spanner and our schedule is looking good for May '09...
