2007 Corolla tops new vehicle registrations in June

Car sales figures don’t make for exciting reading so we will not dwell too long on all the ins and outs. Although official VFACTS figures will not be released until tomorrow GoAuto have managed to get the goss a day early and the big news is that the new 2007 Toyota Corolla blitzed the field to become Australia’s favourite car in the month of June with around 5900 sales.

You might think that means Australians are boring folk who flock to buy boring cars but that is not 100 percent accurate. They are in fact suckers for a good marketing campaign and Toyota spent up big to get Corolla sales pumping.

The Holden Commodore had a strong second place finish with 5600 sales while the ageing Falcon bounced back a little with 3200 sales recorded. Sales of Toyota’s Aurion were up with 2600 finding new homes marking a significant improvement over previous months. Mitsubishi’s 380 languished at the back of the big car field with 970 people having their arm twisted to buy one of the excellent but somewhat unpopular vehicles.

That’s enough for now, we don’t want anyone falling asleep. An update including the overall sales figure for June will be provided tomorrow. Will June sales continue the upwards trend of recent months? Are we still on track to see the magic one million sales in a year milestone exceeded for the first time? Stay tuned…and try not to lose any sleep.
