HSV GTS-R 427 7.0-litre LS7 V8

Well, for all of those people out there who thought a 6.0-litre LS2 HSV was a bit underdone (you know who you are) it appears that the horsepower Gods have been listening to your prayers.

Wheels magazine claim to have the inside news on HSV’s plan to introduce an LS7 equipped sedan that they believe will be named the GTS-R 427. HSV are expected to debut the GTS-R 427 at the Sydney motor show in October to coincide with 20th anniversary of the performance car maker.

Wheels go on to say that dealers around the country are already taking deposits for the monster HSV. The 7.0-litre LS7 thumps out 385kw/640Nm which will quite simply make it the fastest Australian production sedan ever. Expect 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds and the 0-400m dash to take a paltry 12.6 seconds. Top speed could nudge 300km/h but would be electronically limited to 250km/h.

Already doing duty in the latest ZO6 Corvette the LS7 is a hand-built, dry-sumped smallblock V8 that with the help of titanium conrods will rev to 7100rpm. The LS7 weighs the same as the current LS2 6.0-litre so there will be no compromise in the handling department. The Corvette ZO6 is only available with a six-speed manual and an automatic option in the GTS-R 427 is unlikely.

While HSV are expected to debut the GTS-R 427 in October it is likely to be a little longer before it reaches production. HSV will need to work on electronically controlling the torque of the LS7 through careful tuning of the ECU to ensure the survival of gearboxes, differentials and driveshafts. In other words when you punch the firewall with your right foot you will not always get the full quota of torque on offer.

Rumours around the net suggest that the GTS-R 427 may also be the next Pontiac G8 GXP. While we cannot confirm that it wouldn’t surprise us. What it will be is a super sedan that will challenge the likes of AMG and M-Series BMW’s for outright pace if not sophistication. And the price for all of this uber-competitiveness? We would suggest upwards of $100k.

One thing you can be sure of, no matter where you take your new GTS-R 427 it will be like turning up at hole digging party in a D9 Caterpillar when everyone else brought a shovel…

the wheels article is rubbish
HSV denied the article a few days ago

take all of the fun out of it why dont you!
couldn’t you just let some of us dream for a little while longer.
Wheels might have been wrong about it this time but I still think (hope) the LS7 will make an appearance in the HSV line-up at some stage

Yes, unfortunately the GTS-R will not be produced….just another repeat of the HRT 427

I am reasonably confident that we will see a 7.0-litre HSV at some stage and the interest that this Wheels speculation/fabrication kicked up is evidence enough that it would be a huge PR and marketing success for HSV…if not a completely politically correct one.

Why would you even consider paying 100k+ for a car like that to begin with.
There are so many more things out there that offer so much better value for money.

One thing I can’t fathom is with the price of fuel in Australia, even if you are rich enough to buy the car you going to be drinking optimax at an alarming rate.
Personally I think they should just ban the 7 litre engines from existence, especially when the Germans are getting that kind of kw from a 5 liter.

While the Germans may get similar power from a 5 litre engine they don’t get similar torque and torque is what makes the driving experience in a V8 so unique.

I’d much rather have a BMW or Mercedes V8 than a Holden/HSV but the difference in purchase price is huge and buys a truck load of fuel.

For the HSV fanatic with a few $’s the prospect of LS7 power would be frankly akin to the second coming. They wouldn’t care about the price of Optimax and its unlikely it would be a daily driver anyway.

If you lived in the States you’d just go German because they are available at far more sensible prices. The US government isn’t stripping would be imported/luxury car buyers of every greenback they can get their grubby little mitts on…in stark contrast to what happens in Oz.

The GTS-R is value for money, considering a BMW M5 or Mercedes Benz E63 AMG cost upwards of $200k. HSV dealers are taking $5000 deposits. As for the price of fuel in Australia, its a lot cheaper than many other countries, specifically the European ones. If you’ve just purchased a GTS-R instead of an M5 or E63 AMG, then you’ve just earnt yourself about $100k to spend on fuel and tires.

This is quite possibly the best car ever! My only question is, even if the car is capable of 300km/h (delimited) how would it handle? Because let’s face it, its not quite as aerodynamic as some of the porsches and ferraris made for the same sort of speeds. I think I remember reading somewhere that when testing an XR6 Turbo at speeds >250km/h is started to wander and so would be impossible to keep within the lane… Anyone know anything on this?
PS. someone please prove me wrong, my dream is to take this car to the autobarn and show those germans a REAL car!

The car will handle fine at 300km/h. My dad has a HSV Senator Signature 370 KW and it handled 300km/h absolutely fine, but you felt the bumps heaps, but still it handled great and you can easily do it with this new HSV especially with the traction control because FORDS ARE CRAP!!!! Lol the Germans wont believe it
good luck with the car if u biy it, fork out $125,000

Once again, even if this car were to be produced it would be just a bigger but typical american-powered unsophisticated muscle car with more andrenelin than brains, why is it that europeans could bring out that much hp from a smaller engine? I refuse to believe that the whole Holden company cannot create a sophisticated muscle car powered by an Australian engine.

i cant belive the stupidity in some of your opinions..
the gts-r is the opposite of ’sophistication’ its not meant to carry your wife and kids and her shopping..it really belongs to a track, i would rather this then a m5 or equvialant merc for half the price. also the ls7 weighs about the same as a 4.0 v8 from bmw. who needs sophistication and refinement ( the ls7 isnt that rough anyway) when you could hav grunt and pace. fukin pussy’s

German cars may have the same power or more for their size but wont be as reliable as they have to be revved hard to make that power and then there is toque, no comparison. This car would blow those german cars away. Correct me if I’m wrong but the 427 won the Bathurst 24hour race twice in a row against the likes of Ferrari’s V12’s. If they are so bad why didn’t they lose?

I had a call from where I had brought my 2005 HSV R8 in Melbourne asking if i would like to place an order for a 7 liter GTS-R. Asking around about $130k.

can someone tell me when the new gts-r is coming out?

If you are looking for more information about the HSV W427 they have published specs on there HSV website

Hey guys , i hope you can help me out. Im looking For some Brand New 2008 hsv GTS 20 inch rims , for my 2008 R8 , please could you let me know where i can find them, iv looked all over. Plus i live in (Dubai) United Arab Emirates , so ill need to find the exact place , and ship them over.

Thanks alot.

The 427 is well refined, after years of le mans success and the high rpm of such a large engine is not easy and to stick in a passanger car and add a warranty? The facts are german or what ever, seeing the tail lights of a Australian built car from a 200-500k forgien car is embarrassing. If they could do it better they would, if a 5.0 could do more it would. Winning is winning and the 427 is a winner, and you bet the servicing costs of a commodore would be more than enough to out way any fuel cost not mention the smile from ear to ear. The 427 found its way back from australias development in the hrt 427, its like accussing a G8 or gto of being american.

How could anyone hold a argument that a 5.0 with 10 times the money poured in to it to get less or even similar power is nothing less than stupidity. If you could get the same or better results with a smaller budget and better reliabilty wouldn’t you?

Winning is winning as you say, but would’nt Le Mans success equate to winning outright? Somthing that the 427 hasnt acheived, infact I only recall one Manufacturer winning Le Mans that isnt european, Mazda back in 91′ with the famous 787B.

Previous winners are:

07′ Audi
06′ Audi
05′ Audi
04′ Audi
03′ Bentley
02′ Audi
01′ Audi
00′ Audi
99′ BMW
98′ Porsche
97′ Porsche
96′ Porsche
95′ McLaren

etc etc etc

You get the idea, its the europeans that tend to win Le Mans, not american muscle. While the 427 is a ripper engine and no doubt this car will become an instant Australian hero, using corvettes as an example at Le Mans that win in their own category and not outright winners, just strengthens the fact that the big chev is behind in many ways compared to most europeans when they throw everything they have at a car.

i got to say that holden looks like there stepping up to the plate well drive for one fact isnt wrong because it was said that holden will bring out this new beast in the newspapers not to long ago

people complain about petrol prices and say hows holden going to bring this big v8 andd manage to sell this

well think of this way how many v8s out there are that are expensive and still out on the road people say this is over priced but for a straight out fact its because all the work they have put it in to it to change the meaning of hsv i dont blame them

this is going to make a big impact not only from holden but on other cars such as bmw and most other high performance cars
